THE BIG DAY ARRIVES
Monday 17th August 2009 arrived with the threat of showers, the temperature was very acceptable and at 3.30 pm people began arriving for the launch of the recently refurbished Automobile Association Box 472 scheduled for 4pm. All present kept one eye on events and the other on the sky.
L to R: John Henderson, Alex Irvine,
(two retired local AA Patrolmen, plus original uniforms, motorcycle and
sidecar) Mark Cowie
(current AA Patrolman), the Box 472 Team, Alistair Cassie, John Holley, Tony Bass, Martin
Holroyd (in thinking pose) and Derek North.
CUTTING OF THE RIBBON
4pm, clouds gathering above but we made it just in time. Mr Irvine and Mr Henderson declare Box 472
well and truly re launched with Team 472 looking on in anticipation
In total around 50 people attended the ceremony and were offered champagne (the real stuff!) with delicious light snacks
Our picture shows Martin ' I never spill a drop' Holroyd dispensing the bubbly nectar to eager spectators.
Soon after this picture was taken a little Scottish mist came down and slightly dampened proceedings but as the saying goes, undeterred, a good time was had by all!
A SHORT VIDEO CLIP OF BOX 472's RE-LAUNCH
*THERE ARE NO TELEPHONE FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT THIS LOCATION*
The box location was chosen over 60 years ago and higher numbers of vehicles now travel at far greater speeds along the A93 than were envisaged in the 1950's and 1960's.
*Great care should be taken when arriving
at or leaving the location*
